Q: How is one-to-one MiDAS different to the standard MiDAS course?
A: One-to-one is delivered, as the name suggests, on a one-to-one basis. Alternatively the course can be delivered with one Driving Trainer / Assessor to up to three candidates. The one-to-one training and driving assessment is all provided in the same day. The constraints on time mean that there is not sufficient time on the one-to-one course to run the practical elements of the fire and evacuation section. [more info]
Q: I already have a PCV licence. Do I need to do a MiDAS course?
A: Those that drive BCT minibuses need to complete the MiDAS course. It is up to other organisations to decide whether or not they require a MiDAS certificate.
Q: How long is the MiDAS certificate valid for?
A: Each MiDAS certificate currently issued is valid for 4 years from the date of issue. There is also a degree of flexibility regarding a ‘period of grace’ immediately after the end of the four year period. The BCT Office will be able to advise you on this if necessary.
Q: My MiDAS certificate hasn’t run out yet. Can I still take the training again?
A: Yes, you can take the MiDAS course again. The four year validity for the new certificate will run from the date of the driving assessment (regardless of the validity date on the previous certificate).
Q: When I took the MiDAS course with BCT I didn’t need to do the accessible element so only undertook the module 1. Circumstances have now changed and so I’d like to do the accessible element. Can I do that?
A: Yes. If you have a current MiDAS certificate issued by BCT then you can undertake the accessible element free of charge. The validity date will be unchanged.
Q: I’ve lost my MiDAS certificate. Can I get a replacement?
A: BCT maintains a database of those that have conducted MiDAS training with BCT. Certificates are unique, therefore the only option is for BCT to supply a letterhead confirming the details originally shown on the MiDAS certificate.
Q: Why do I need a photo ID card after completing the MiDAS course?
A: Carrying the PhotoID card can be an easier way of proving your MiDAS status rather than carrying the MiDAS Certificate. If you hire vehicles from BCT then you may be asked to show your ID card when collecting your vehicle keys. The PhotoID card also indicates whether the individual has completed the ‘accessible’ element of the MiDAS course, and whether they have category “D1” on their driving licence. You may also find the ID card useful as a means of identification for other purposes.
Q: Will the MiDAS course count towards the continuing professional development (CPD) requirements of my employer, voluntary organisation or professional body ?
A: This will depend on the requirements of the relevant CPD scheme, and so is not an issue on which we can provide advice.
Q: Do BCT drivers need a “Driver CPC” (Certificate of Professional Competence).
A: No, Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally.
