Transforming public transport
HCT Group runs high profile public bus routes for Transport for London (TfL), the States of Jersey and the States of Guernsey. We also operate the prestigious m1 Metrobus route in Bristol and a number of contracted routes in the west of England, and Yorkshire.
Bristol City Council: HCT Group delivers the m1, the third and longest route in Bristol’s new Metrobus Quality Partnership Scheme, under contract to First West of England. The buses run on biogas generated from food and farm waste and sewage, as part of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions. To reflect the importance of the new service in supporting local communities, artwork featuring community groups and organisations based on the route features on the inside rear of the vehicles.
States of Jersey: We are franchised to run the whole bus network on Jersey as an open book, profit share contract. Both HCT Group and the commissioner are incentivised to optimise the network’s performance. Since launching the service in 2013, we have grown passenger ridership by 38% and reduced the annual subsidy by £800k. Jersey's franchising model is written up as a case study here.
Transport for London: We are the only social enterprise that operates London red buses under contract to TfL. We currently deliver 17 routes, in the most challenging operating environment in the UK, including double deckers on major routes. We have won the TfL Award for Outstanding Customer Service in five of the past seven years.
