Each year we conduct a staff satisfaction survey, giving colleagues a stronger voice. The survey explores how people feel about their role, the organisation and how communication and dialogue might be improved. Results are shared across the organisation, with each region developing an action plan to follow up on staff feedback.
Colin's Story
Colin has been a controller for 11 years, keeping our services in Jersey running smoothly and safely. He says every day is different in this job, which he loves.
‘I have been a controller for 11 years, and was a bus driver before that. Every day is different in this job, which I love.
‘My job as a controller is to ensure that we operate a safe, reliable and punctual service, and make sure we are delivering the customer service our passengers expect. We are in constant contact with the drivers, explaining any roadworks or diversions, and dealing with any breakdowns.
‘There is a team of five controllers here, two working at once. We have a busy start to the day, with about 75 drivers signing on before 07:30. Through the day we have other drivers signing on for service buses or for school runs, so there is always a lot going on.
‘There’s an excellent team here, and we all work together. Everyone is different and I enjoy working with them all.
‘There’s a lot to learn – first as a bus driver, then as a controller. You get good training here – HCT Group does that very well. It usually all falls into place.
‘HCT Group is different – there’s a lot of work for the community that happens, and you don’t get that everywhere. Honestly, I don’t think there’s much room for improvement!’
