Each year we conduct a staff satisfaction survey, giving colleagues a stronger voice. The survey explores how people feel about their role, the organisation and how communication and dialogue might be improved. Results are shared across the organisation, with each region developing an action plan to follow up on staff feedback.
Deborah and Laura's Story
There’s a real family feel in HCT Group – just ask Deborah and Laura, mum and daughter who work in our Leeds depot

Deborah’s Story
‘I’ve worked for HCT Group for about seven years now, and I love working here. It’s a cracking team. And we have the most approachable boss you’ll ever meet in your life! Even if you’re in trouble he’ll find a good solution – all the drivers respect him.
‘You’re not just a number here, you actually feel that you matter – you become part of a family. Every one of your bosses – right to the Chief Executive – is approachable. They’ll come to the depot, and they know your name, or if you’re new they’ll take five minutes and ask you how you are, how you’re getting on with the job. They’re actually interested in how you feel.
‘My daughter Laura used to pop in to see me between cleaning jobs – she was cleaning bars all over Leeds. She was pretty tired of it, and there was a cleaning job going here, and she snatched up the chance to work here. And then a job came up in Engineering, and our boss said she should give it a go and apply, and she’s right happy now.’
Laura’s Story
‘When I used to come in and see my mum, people would come and say hi, and everyone was just really friendly. I liked the people and the atmosphere so I snapped up the cleaning job!
‘After a few months this job came up in Engineering. I didn’t know much about buses before I started but I’m learning a lot! I love this job – I’m speaking to people every single day, and everybody supports everybody. In some places if you get stuck, you’re left to your own devices, but here people go out of their way to help you.’
