Bristol Community Transport is seeking a Managing Director to grow both the scale and the social impact of our community transport services in Bristol.

Uploaded 23 Apr 2019

BCT is seeking to appoint an entrepreneurial Managing Director to lead and grow our well-established, socially motivated organisation, helping vulnerable communities in Bristol get out and about.

BCT is a social enterprise providing efficient, accessible and cost-effective transport and associated services throughout the Bristol area. We help people at risk of social isolation to access opportunities and to play a part in their communities. It is part of the UK-wide social enterprise HCT Group which also provides commercial services in Bristol and nationally.

In 2017/18 BCT provided around 60,000 passenger trips to community group members; 32,000 Dial-a-Ride trips for older and disabled people; and 30,000 passenger trips for disadvantaged individuals on our community buses. We have massive social impact and this role is about growing this impact further.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing the scale, range and diversity of high impact community transport services to meet the needs of local individuals and communities.
  • Managing and monitoring internal Service Level Agreements for delivering the services through the commercial sister company, CT Plus.
  • Managing the financial performance of BCT against budget, with the support of HCT Group’s Finance Business Partner.
  • Leading and managing the BCT staff team, building a positive workplace culture and maintaining staff morale and support for the organisation’s purpose and values.
  • Managing the relationship with West of England Combined Authority, the Bristol Impact Fund and other local authority departments/key stakeholders.
  • Understanding and developing insight around our passengers’ needs through the analysis of demand patterns, service levels and passenger feedback, and through continuing co-design and engagement. Ensuring this insight feeds into service development.
  • Building the brand and reputation of BCT in the city and the surrounding area.

The Managing Director will be accountable to the local board and will work closely with HCT Group’s Executive team and other colleagues across the group. They will be supported by HCT Group support services, including finance, HR and communications.
